No luck yet...

Managed to for a run today, after India put up a disappointing effort in the second test match. I managed to run only 5kms as my legs were struggling to return to normal. The overall result was good as well as bad. The bad part is obvious, the good thing was that this time it was not the old injury.

I plan to work on my legs during the coming week and try and do as many runs as possible till next Sunday. After that I plan to rest completely so that I have completely fresh pair of legs on the following Sunday for the marathon.

Great Running. I and a friend are coming over from the UK for the Mumbai Marathon. I am running the full and my mate the half. I think he has more sense. I have run 3.28 in Oct 07 at Eindhoven The Netherlands which is my PB. Training has not gone well for Mumbai and hope to run 4 to 4.30 depends on the conditions. Any advice you have we would welcome. We arrive Weds 17th and are staying in the Fort area. My mail address is pg.evans@tesco.net if you cannot see it as I do not blog. Are you running with anyone or in a group.

Anyway all the best for the run

Thanks Paul. The time that you have set seems reasonable given the heat and humidity in Bombay. Just ensure that you have a good amount of fluids (the minimum and max temperature varies from 14degree C to 30degree C), so the last ten 10km of the marathon are going to be tough (the race starts at 7.30am). Try and do the first 22kms in 2hrs, so that you have more time for the second half.
Fort area is very close to the start line.
I run alone, Bombay does not have much of a running culture, so there are very few runner groups.

Best wishes for the run. Enjoy.

Thanks Paul, Best wishes to you too. I sub 4 looks very doubtful as I am yet to recover fully. Hope to catch you at the start line, I will be wearing the same gear at the one in my profile pic (white LA Dodgers cap, the great tibetan marathon tshirt and blue shorts, with a water pouch on my waist).

I thought it might be tough to run a mara so soon after a ultra but big respect for having a go in any time. I managed to blog some photos on my link. Not many pasty looking brits at the start I think.
I also will try for the first time a bottle belt (as its never that warm in a mara here to need one) and I will bring some energy gels with me. What is the energy drink for the mara - Brand name? and is it any good, I have read conflicting reports about it.

Yes do carry energy gels with you. Also carry a few endurolites if you can. There is no branded energy drink served at the Bombay marathon, I would suggest that you carry one gatorade or your preferred drink in the waist pouch and another one in your hand (if you are used to it). You are served electrol mixed in water (its useful but just about).
Best wishes.
I had done the Singapore marathon in Dec 2006. Did it in 4hr 28mins.

Thanks again for the info its helps us a great deal. Great time in Singapore and the Ultra. I was thinking of an Ultra in Ireland 09 the Connemarathon http://www.connemarathon.com/
its not hot like India but boy have a look at those mountains a killer only 39 miles though (62K) Not long to go now cannot wait for the Bombay experience

Ultras are very doable, they just sound daunting. It only requires the physical ability of marathon, rest is purely mental.
The buzz from a ultra is way higher than any marathon (incl. adventure marathons like the Great Tibetan marathon). You should take up the Connemarathon.
