27.65km run...

I started a little later than I had planned and paid the price for it. I was unable to do the 30kms I had planned for the day. The weather was quite hot and humid today, guess the so called Bombay winter has not yet arrived.

I ran for about 2hr 49min for the distance, though I was hoping to run for 3hrs. I also need to change my hydration plan, instead of one bottle of Gatorade and another of water, I need to carry two bottles of Gatorade for these distances, in this weather. The fluids should then be enough for my 3.5hrs run to do about 35kms. That is my plan for next week.

The timing shown by the pedometer today for the long run seemed quite accurate, it did show that I had a speed of 11-12km/hr during the first 30mins or so and after that it settled down around 10km/hr. The only change was that this time I was wearing it on my waist pouch instead of shorts, so will try it again next week to see if the readings are any different.

Keep up the effort! This last part is the toughest part of training for the marathon. :->

I can feel your pain though. I also tried to run for 3 hours this weekend but was only able to do 2 hr 30 minutes (15 miles). So, I'm feeling a bit of stress about being able to get the necessary long runs in. The good news is that this last run was 10% longer than the week before. There are still 3 weekends although I am planning to taper the last weekend and only do 21km.

Hydration is also an issue for me. In past years I ran with a 600ml bottle in my belt and carried a 1L bottle. This last weekend I did not bother with the 1L bottle. I think I'm going to go back to carrying the extra bottle. Unfortuately, my running routes do not have shops that sell bottled water otherwise, I would buy a bottle along the way.

Anyways, keep up the effort, we are almost there!!

Thanks. I am sure you will do well, you are on the right track. Be careful about hydration and heat, those are bigger killers than stamina or pain (I faced it this weekend). Yes tapering it to 15-20 on the last week is what I am planning as well. Next two Sundays are very critical for the both of us.
By the way I have start a community called Marathon India on Orkut, to find more like minded people who want to do different marathons.
Best wishes.

Hey, I think you and I are on the same wavelength. I've registered a domain indiarunning.com with the goal of setting up a site were indian can learn about running and share their ideas and thoughts. It would list all the running events in India and maybe, just maybe become the premier site in India for runners. I was going to talk to you about it when we met in Singapore.

That is really interesting. It would be great to exchange ideas. The only reason I choose Orkut is the potential traffic it would attract, as Indians are the second largest community on Orkut after Brazilians.
